Indigenous species habitat protector

The aim of the programme is to remove the tree of heaven, an invasive species that is threatening the indigenous  species in the territory of Krka National Park, and to raise awareness among the local population with the aim of  changing their behaviour and attitudes towards nature.

What does a Krka Habitat Protector do?

  •  remove trees of heaven
  • contribute to conserving nature and the biodiversity in the Park area
  • participate in expert excursions.

How many volunteers are needed?

20

What is the period of volunteering?

September 2023 (10 days).

What are the work hours of volunteers?

From five to seven hours daily, within the period from 9 am to 4 pm.

What are the qualities a volunteer should have?

  •  a love of the outdoors (adequate clothing and footwear for field work required)
  • an affinity for teamwork

- communication and presentation skills.

What languages should a volunteer know?

Volunteers from foreign countries can only volunteer if they understand and speak English.

Can disabled persons volunteer?

Due to the configuration of the terrain, this volunteer position is not suitable for persons with disabilities.

Where do the volunteers work?

The volunteers perform their activities on the chosen plots at Krka National Park and the town of Skradin, where  large trees of heaven have already been removed.

Accommodation

Accommodation is provided at the volunteer centre in the Krka Eco Campus in Puljane. The Campus is 53 km from  Šibenik, 23 km from Knin, 21 km from Drniš, and 7 km from Oklaj. 

Food

Food is provided (two meals per day). 

Transport

Transportation for the volunteers will be provided from Šibenik Bus Station to the Krka Eco Campus when they  come to volunteer, and from the Krka Eco Campus to the Šibenik Bus Station when they finish volunteering.

Transportation is provided within the Park (from the accommodation to the work areas).

Equipment

All field work equipment is provided (single use gloves, garden gloves, garden scissors, hoes).

What can volunteers do when not volunteering?

  • Get to know the natural values and cultural and historical sights within Krka National Park, - Get to know other protected areas, areas of the Natura 2000 ecological network, and cultural and  historical sights in the area,
  • Get to know the local customs,
  • Take advantage of the social content on Campus.
