The restoration workshop, the archaeological collection, and the Burnum site will be presented at the Krka Eco Campus in Puljane.
The Public Institute of Krka National Park and the "Juraj Dalmatinac" Society for the Preservation of the Šibenik Heritage have signed a partnership agreement within the framework of the Second ConserveUs Festival Šibenik 2026, an international congress dedicated to the conservation and restoration of the cultural heritage, and the exchange of professional knowledge and experience.
“The ConserveUs Festival was created with the idea of bringing together people and institutions that share the same goal – preserving heritage and passing on knowledge about its conservation. That is why our partnership with Krka National Park is particularly valuable to us. Their experience in protecting archaeological heritage further enriches the Festival, while giving participants the opportunity to discover another important aspect of our shared heritage and meet the people who care for it every day,” said Nikola Grubić, President of the "Juraj Dalmatinac" Society.
The agreement confirms that the Public Institute of Krka National Park will serve as a partner and co-organizer of the Festival, the goals of which are to connect experts and institutions active in the field of the preservation of the cultural heritage, and to bring conservation and restoration activities closer to the general public.
„In addition to its natural features, the Krka National Park preserves an exceptionally valuable cultural and historical heritage, and through the work of our restoration workshop, we develop and share knowledge and expertise regarding the protection and preservation of archaeological artifacts and materials found within the Park. By participating in the ConserveUs Festival, we aim to share these experiences with colleagues, students, and the interested public, while simultaneously creating opportunities for new professional connections", emphasized the director of the Krka National Park Public Insititute, Nella Slavica.
From an archaeological find to the restoration workshop
The festival will take place from September 23 to 26, with part of the program scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at the Krka Eco Campus in Puljane. The Public Institute of Krka National Park will make the conference hall on the campus available for the Festival, and present its work on the protection and preservation of the cultural heritage to the participants. Following a presentation on its conservation and restoration activities, "From an Archaeological Find to the Restoration Workshop: The Development of Conservation and Restoration Activities at the Krka National Park", the participants will tour both the Burnum Archaeological Collection and the Burnum archaeological site itself under the expert guidance of the Park staff. This program will introduce participants to various aspects of the protection, preservation, and interpretation of the rich archaeological heritage of the Krka National Park. They will also learn about the contribution of the project The Unknown Krka – Hidden Treasures of the Upper and Middle Courses of the Krka River, which included the development of the Krka Eco Campus in Puljane.
The ConserveUs Festival Šibenik 2026 brings together experts, students, and citizens through lectures, practical work, and gatherings dedicated to the preservation of the cultural heritage.
The Festival is organized by the "Juraj Dalmatinac" Society for the Preservation of the Šibenik Heritage, the Croatian Conservation Institute, and the Academy of Art of the University of Split, while the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb is a partner, and the Krka National Park Public Institute is a co-organizer and partner.
