The training was designed for institute employees with the aim of acquiring fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for the effective use of geographic information systems in their daily work.

Participants gained an understanding of the basic principles of GIS, as well as the ability to work independently with spatial data and cartographic representations through this structured and practically oriented program. Special emphasis was placed on the application of GIS tools in the context of nature conservation, spatial planning, and protected area management, ensuring the direct applicability of the acquired skills in the operational activities of the Public Institute of Krka National Park.

Upon completion of the training, participants were equipped to:

  • independently manage spatial data in GIS,
  • create and analyse basic spatial databases,
  • interpret spatial information for planning and reporting purposes,
  • produce thematic maps and basic spatial analyses relevant to protected area management.

The program was conducted as a combination of theoretical and practical content from 5–8 December and 15–17 December 2025 at the Krka Eco Campus in Puljani and at the Movement Centre in Laškovica. The training was carried out by professors and assistants from Geospatial Technologies Centre at the University of Zadar, to whom we express our gratitude for their imparted knowledge.
